M.Plan in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP)

The Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) at the KIIT School of Architecture and Planning (KSAP) is a two-year, full-time postgraduate programme approved by AICTE. The programme is designed to prepare competent planning professionals capable of addressing the complex challenges of rapidly urbanizing regions through sustainable, inclusive, and technology-driven planning approaches. The curriculum integrates planning theory with professional practice, enabling students to develop expertise in urban planning, regional planning, infrastructure systems, housing, transportation, environmental planning, governance, geo-informatics, and planning legislation. Studio-based learning, field investigations, live consultancy projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations provide students with practical exposure to real-world planning problems. Supported by experienced faculty, advanced GIS and planning laboratories, and collaborations with government agencies, industries, and international institutions, the programme nurtures planners capable of contributing to national and global sustainable development initiatives.

Pedagogy. The programme adopts an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework integrating classroom learning with experiential and studio-based pedagogy. Students engage in lectures, planning studios, workshops, seminars, field surveys, GIS-based exercises, live projects, internships, case studies, research assignments, and stakeholder interactions. Teaching emphasises critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, design innovation, policy analysis, and evidence-based planning. Continuous assessment through studio reviews, presentations, reports, and project-based learning ensures the development of professional competencies aligned with national and international planning standards.

Organisational structure & academic governance. The programme is administered under the KIIT School of Architecture and Planning through a structured academic framework comprising the Dean, Programme Coordinator, Board of Studies, faculty members, external academic experts, and industry professionals. The curriculum is periodically reviewed to incorporate emerging developments in planning practice, national policies, AICTE guidelines, and industry requirements. Continuous feedback from students, alumni, employers, and academic experts ensures academic excellence and curriculum relevance.
