From February 17 th to 21 st 2024, KIIT School of Architecture organized a study trip to Kolkata for the students of B.Arch Batch 2023-28. The objective was to study the architectural features of the Marble Palace Mansion. The Marble Palace Mansion is an architectural masterpiece that was built with a mix of neoclassical style with traditional elements and additional touches of Chinese style. It was built from superior quality Italian marble giving the entire structure a look of magnificence. The mansion is built with about 126 different types of marbles, picked and chosen from various places of the country to make it an architectural elegance.
Over three days, a group of 20 students meticulously studied the palace, measuring different parts of the mansion, various architectural elements and making engineering drawing, sketches etc. They also captured the essence of the palace through photography. Prof. Sovan Saha conducted and guided the whole exercise. Prof. Poulami Banerjee from SNU was invited to brief the students
regarding the mansion on the first day. It provided the students with hands-on experience in architectural documentation, enhanced their understanding about historical structures and enabled
them to be able to use the that knowledge in future assignments.
