Biography and academic profile
Prof. Soumyendu Shankar Ray is an eminent Indian architect, educator, and founding Director General of the School of Architecture and Planning at KIIT Deemed to be University. A graduate of Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Mumbai, and an M.Arch recipient from IIT Roorkee, he brings over 40 years of academic and professional expertise to contemporary architecture. Renowned for seamlessly blending traditional aesthetics with modern functionality and sustainable, climate-friendly design, his vast portfolio encompasses master planning, campus design, healthcare facilities, adaptive reuse, and disaster-resilient community architecture. Notable works include the expansive KIIT University campus, the GRIHA 5-star rated Vastukar design studio, and critical coastal cyclone shelters. He has also co-authored the book Odisha: An Architectural Odyssey and developed the patented ‘SSR Model’ for post-occupancy school building evaluations.
