Suryendu Dasgupta
Assistant Professor
Dr. Suryendu Dasgupta is an architect and urban designer working in the field of urban heritage management. His research focuses specifically on exploring and developing heritage conservation approaches as a collaborative effort, with the participation of the community and responding to their aspirations and expectations. His PhD research led to the development of a comprehensive heritage management approach for colonial hill stations in India, within the context of Darjeeling. The outcome of the research promoted equilibrium between urban development, built heritage protection and expectations of the local community, thus aligning with the UNESCO Heritage Urban Landscape approach. He was also a DAAD Research Scholar, involved in a collaborative project between IIT Roorkee and RWTH Aachen, for developing an "Indo-German Centre for Experimental Architecture and Material Culture". He has also worked as a Project Fellow in IIT Roorkee in the project "Campus Accessibility and Inclusion of Diversity" that aims towards making the campus accessible to all its stakeholders at multiple and diverse levels of functions, spanning academics and administration, guided by the principles of Universal Design and Accessibility.
